Our Programs

Junior Blasters (5–7 years)

Game-based activities that help kids learn cricket skills. Everyone is welcome, at all skill levels and abilities. Sessions run 9–10am on Saturdays at Kalang Park from mid-October to late February, with a break over the school holidays.

Junior Cricket (7-17 years)

As kids progress, they move through non-competitive cricket (Super 7s and Fast 9s) to competitive junior cricket (U12 and above).

Super 7s (approx. 7–8 years)

Modified matches for kids ready to play in a team. Seven players per side, using soft balls, a shortened pitch and a maximum 40m boundary. Everyone gets to bat, bowl and field, with unlimited dismissals. Matches are played on Saturday mornings.

Fast 9s (approx. 8–9 years)

Builds on skills, for kids in their 2nd or 3rd year of cricket. Nine players per side using 142g hard balls. Everyone gets to bat, bowl and field, with dismissals limited to 8 per side. Matches are played on Saturday mornings.

U12s–U18s

Competitive junior cricket, played without modified rules. U12 matches are played on Saturday mornings; U14, U16 and U18 matches are played on Friday evenings.

Season

The junior season runs from early October to early March, with a break over the school holidays.

Training Days

Training takes place at Kalang Park. Training days can change from time to time depending on coach availability — your training day will be confirmed by your coach or team manager before the season begins.

Mondays – U14s

Tuesdays – U12s

Wednesdays – Super 7s and Fast 9s

Thursdays – U16s and U18s

Uniforms

Junior Blasters receive a personalised shirt and hat in their choice of colour, plus a bat, ball and sticker pack as part of their Junior Blasters Pack.

Junior Players (Super 7s and above) need:

  • A Laburnum junior playing shirt and cap — please contact our uniform coordinator for ordering information: uniforms.laburnumcricketclub@gmail.com

  • White cricket pants — available at sports/cricket stores

  •

Equipment

Junior Blasters: all equipment is provided.

All junior players must provide their own box protector.

Super 7s, Fast 9s and U12s: each team is provided with a kit bag containing all necessary equipment, which is shared amongst all team members. Players are also welcome to purchase and use their own equipment.

U14s, U16s and U18s: players generally provide their own equipment; however, equipment is also available to be borrowed.

Parent Involvement

Junior Blasters: sessions are overseen by volunteer supervisors. Parents are expected to remain at the session and may be asked to help out with some of the drills.

Junior Teams: all junior teams have volunteer coaches and team managers. These are usually parents of the players. Each week, parents will also be rostered on to score, umpire or provide refreshments.

Registration

Registration usually opens at the end of June, and is completed online through PlayHQ

Pathway to Senior Cricket

Laburnum fields five senior teams in the BHRDCA, playing all grades on Saturday afternoons — with a strong tradition of father/son combinations that makes for a family-friendly club culture. Junior players from top-age U14s are encouraged to transition into senior cricket, based on readiness and suitability. It's also a great environment for parents looking to return to the game, whether it's been five years or twenty!

Health & Safety

Child Safety

At Laburnum Cricket Club, the safety and wellbeing of children is our top priority. We're committed to a welcoming, supportive and secure environment where every child feels safe, valued and protected. All volunteers in the junior program must hold a current Working with Children Check card.

SunSmart

The club practices and actively promotes SunSmart guidelines at all junior training sessions and matches.

Alcohol

Alcohol must not be consumed at junior training sessions or matches by parents or other adults supporting the programs.
